Abstract
The invention comprises 1,3,5-triazines of the general formula <FORM:0889715/IV (b)/1> which are substituted in the 4- and 6-positions by isothiocyanate or thiocyanate groups or in the 4-(or 6-) position by a thiocyanate or isothiocyanate group and in the 6- (or 4-) position by the group -XR, in which formula the radicals R, which may be the same or different, represent aliphatic, araliphatic or cycloaliphatic radicals which may, if desired, be substituted and which can also contain one or more hetero atoms, and X represents oxygen, sulphur, an NH group or -N= group or a direct carbon-carbon bond, or where only one group -XR is present then -XR may represent an alkoxyarylamino radical. The novel compounds may be made by reacting a 2-(RX-substituted)-4,6-dihalotriazine or a 2,4-di(RX-substituted)-6-halotriazine with the thiocyanato salt of an alkali or alkaline earth metal or zinc in the presence of an aliphatic alcohol containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms as solvent. The alkoxy-substituted isothiocyanato or thiocyanato triazines may also be made by reacting a 2,4,6-trihalotriazine with the cyanato salt and the aliphatic alcohol. Instead of the thiocyanato salt, a reaction product of a salt of hydrocyanic acid with elementary sulphur may be used. Examples describe the preparation of 2,4-dithiocyanato-6-methoxy-s-triazine 2,4-dithiocyanato-6-phenetidino-s-triazine and 2,4-dimethoxy-6-thiocyanatos-triazine. The products are useful as chemical intermediates and pesticides.
