Abstract
888,042. Concrete mixers. AUGUST, P. April 5, 1960, No. 18294/61. Divided out of 888,041. Class 86. A transportable semi-automatic concrete mixer shown in the working position comprises a framework in the form of a right-angled triangle and a stationary horizontal mixing drum 13 having mixing means carried on a rotatable axial shaft driven by a motor 10 through a clutch, gearing and chain drive, (see Figs. 4 and 8 not shown). The motor also drives winches for hoisting and loading skip 5 and for operating a scraper shovel 95 (see Fig. 1 not shown). In operation the loaded skip, which has rollers 71 engaging a runway 4, is hoisted by operation of its winch and at the top of its travel tilts to discharge its contents into the opening 25 of the drum 13. At the same time a stop member 66 (see Fig. 6 not shown) on the skip 5 strikes the lever 59 which cuts off the supply of water to the water drum 46 and opens a discharge cock to discharge its contents into the mixing drum 13. The water drum may be provided with an internal sloping outlet tube the inclination of which is adjustable from astride the drum, to regulate the amount of water discharged. When the skip 5 is returned to its bottom position the stop 66 strikes the lever 65, which closes the discharge cock of the water drum 46 and opens the filling cock. At the same time the operator withdraws manually the locking bolt 31. The drum 13 being freely supported in trunnions is rotated anti-clockwise under the influence of the rotating stirrer shaft, until it has turned through 180 degrees when the locking bolt 31 engages in the recess 29 and the drum discharges through the opening 25. The loading skip 5 in its upward travel is arranged to disengage automatically the locking bolt 31; the drum is then rotated clockwise under the influence of the spring buffer and recuperator mechanism 36, 40 from the discharging to the charging and mixing position. The mixing action is rapid and takes place during the time required to reload the skip 5. The mixer is transported by tilting it about the feet 97 until it rests on the road wheels 3, (see also Fig. 2 not shown). The skip 5 may be stored within the frame. The mixer may be re-erected by detaching the cable 74 from the loading skip, fastening it to a ground hold fast 100, Fig. 1 (not shown) and operating the skip winch.
