886,173. Contacting a liquid with a gas or vapour. MONTZ, O., [trading as MONTZ KOMM. -GE S., JULIUS]. April 22,1960[April 22, 1959], No. 14261/60. Class 55 (2). The tray 1 of a column wherein a gas or vapour is contacted with a liquid has tubular members 2 for the upward passage of gas or vapour and the downward passage of liquid, each tubular member having one or more devices 3 causing liquid to flow by capillary action over the rim of the tubular member when the level of liquid is below the rim. As shown in Fig. 5, the capillary device consists of wire bent in a series of U-bends which are positioned on the rim of a tubular member the limbs 3a or 3b which depend into the liquid on the tray being of different lengths.
