Abstract

A washing machine for the treatment of textiles having electrical switching means activated by the temperature of the liquid in the machine is characterised in that means are provided for varying the response temperature of the switching means and a container is provided for bleaching agent co-operating with an electromagnet lying in the circuit of the switching means. Preferably a thermostat controls the release of bleaching agent to the washing machine. Depending on whether oxygen or chlorine bleaching is used, timing of the release of bleaching agent from the container in to the machine can be determined in advance, according to the most suitable washing temperatures for use with oxygen or chlorine bleaches, respectively.
