A gear shaving machine comprises a U- shaped frame 1, 2, 2<SP>1</SP> carrying the work 7 above the tool 6 on horizontal axes, the tool being of gear or rack form. To accommodate work of large diameter, extension blocks may be positioned between the base 1 and the columns 2, 2<SP>1</SP>. Workpieces may be fed to and from the machine along a roller conveyer 10. The working section may be covered by a transparent flap.
