Abstract
884,710. Biscuit and like sandwich-making machines. PETERS MACHINERY CO. March 13, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958], No. 8840/59. Class 28 (1). Also in Group XXX] Sandwich halves are fed from a magazine to conveyer means which carries them to a dispenser with a plurality of circumferential spaced passageways through which a layer of filler is deposited directly on to each sandwich half which then passes under a second magazine to receive its second half before being carried to rails. As shown, the machine comprises a base 12 carrying side frames 10 between which is mounted a pair of supporting wires 14 for each line of sandwiches. Each wire is connected at one end to a spring and at the other end to adjustable tensioning means and is guided over a rod 24, grooves in stub rods 40, 26, is wrapped one turn round grooved pulleys 28, and extends over grooved pulleys 30. Rods 26 are carried on arms 38 welded to a rockershaft 101. A chain 37 passes round and is secured to a sprocket 35 on shaft 101 and to a pull screw 41 so that shaft 101 can be turned to elevate rods 26 and hence wires 14 at this point. Arms 42 support rod 40 and form part of an adjustable bell - crank being pivoted about a cross-rod 44 by a manually-operated screw 48. Conveyer chains 56 are driven by sprockets 54 and have fingers 64 which propel cookies and sandwiches supported by rails 233 along wires 14. The depositor comprises a fixed tubular shaft 72, having a pair of stencil ports 73, which is mounted in bearings 76 on which extension sleeves 78, 80 on a drum 74 are rotatable, sleeve 78 having a drive sprocket 82 by which it is driven in synchronism with chain 76. Drum 74 has two drum-like lands 130, 132, each containing interchangeable stencils 134 and the depositor rotates once for each three cookies C<SP>1</SP> progressed by fingers 64 which pass beneath it to receive cream 136. A stencil shaft plug 138, Fig. 9, is retained in shaft 72 by a lock-nut and a shut-off valve tube 140 is rotatable therein. Tube 140 and rod 142 have adjacent flanges 144 and 146 and rod 142 has a further flange 148. Welded to tube 140 respectively on the right of flange 144 and between flanges 146 and 148 are valve blocks 150, 152 relatively adjustable by means of levers 154, 156 and adjusting screw 158 and simultaneously adjustable to and from a cut-off position by pneumatic means. Drum 74 is supplied with cream from hopper 168 where it is stirred by paddle 170 whose blades 172 propel it outwards towards a discharge opening 174 in the bottom leading to a casing 178. Mounted in casing 178 is a conveyer 176 driven by a motor 177 which discharges into the inlet 180 of a feed pump 182 which has a fixed casing 184 containing a helical rotor 186. The pump outlet 190 is connected to the left-hand end of shaft 72, Fig. 9. The whole is readily disconnectible and the pump assembly may be mounted on a platform 242 having casters. Arms 77 adjustably support a cut-off wire 75 which is spring-biased against the periphery of depositor drum 74. Paddle 170 and rotor 186 are driven from motor through an adjustable variable speed drive 200. Adjustable bars 210, Fig. 1, engage the sandwiches to squeeze them together. Finished sandwiches are delivered by stacker cams 230 carried on a driven shaft 226 to a platform from which they are removed by a conveyer belt. In operation, cookies C<SP>1</SP> are removed one at a time from magazine 236 by fingers 64 which progress them past the cream depositor to mechanisms 239 which drop cookies C<SP>2</SP> from magazines 238.
