Abstract

At least a portion of a blank of polymerised synthetic resin material and pre-selected configuration is softened by subjecting it to the vapour of a suitable solvent without causing it to become tacky and then supported within a mould of shape conforming to that of the final article, after which a sufficient quantity of flowable synthetic resin substance to fill the mould is introduced, which substance is characterised by bonding to the blank to produce the required laminated article. The process may be used for producing articles having an inlay of differing colour and less area than at least one major face of the article and lying flush with such face, in particular for spectacle frames in which the upper and lower portions are of different colours or shades. Suitable synthetic resins for use in the process include cellulose acetate-butyrate and cellulose acetate-propionate. Although it is not necessary that the blank and moulding substance be of the same type of synthetic resin, they should be compatible in order to assure firm bonding.
