Class 132(1) An adjustable skate comprises separate sole and heel sections 12, 14 with slidably engaged extensions which can be secured in the required relative position by locking means comprising on one section a movable locking finger 36 actuated by a cam lever 40 to engage the other section. Sections 12, 14 are preferably moulded from plastic, e.g. linear polyethylene. The section 12 includes a supporting surface 16, which may have a peripheral flange 18, and has an aperture 20 from which depends a hollow housing 22 with a transverse opening 26 and an integral rearward channel-shaped extension 28. The bottom wall 30 of extension 28 has a finger 36 with a toothed locking dog 38 formed integrally therewith. A pivoted cam lever 40 can engage finger 36 to force it upwards into engagement with a rack 86 on section 14. Section 14 has a support surface 52 with a marginal flange 54, flexible moulded fastening straps and an aperture from which depends a housing 68 similar to housing 22 and having a transverse opening 70. A channel-shaped extension 76 extends forwardly from section 14 its top wall 78 having a raised portion 84 which slides in a slot 88 in surface 16 to guide the sections 12 and 14 when they are inter-engaged by sliding extension 28 into extension 76. Housing 22 has aligned cut-outs through which extension 76 passes, extension 28 passing through an opening in housing 68. The wheel axles 76 extend through the openings 26 and 70 in housings 22 and 68 and caps 100 hold the wheels on the axles. Alternatively, pairs of ice skate blades 108, e.g. of steel are carried on mounting pins 112 and 118 which pass through openings 26 and 70. Pins 118 slide in slots 116 in the blades to allow for adjustment. Alternatively, a single central blade may be used.
