Abstract

Di-(beta-hydroxyethyl)-terephthalate is produced by heating dimethyl terephthalate with ethylene glycol in the presence of an acidic ion-exchange resin, e.g. a sulphonated copolymer of styrene and divinylbenzene. In an example, the reaction is carried out at a temperature of 140 DEG C., and the resin-catalyst is contained in a glass-fabric bag.
