A laundry plant comprises at least one group of at least two electric washing machines, the washing machines in the or each group being interconnected by connecting liquid pipes each having a drain conduit, a control device controlling electric circuits for the machines so that each washing machine in its group fulfils a complete washing cycle; in said control device driving means driving removable and adjustable elements each of which coacts with at least one contact device controlling one of said electric circuits, the arrangement being such that the washing cycles of the washing machines in the or each group are out of phase. The control device may comprise a driving means, one complete revolution of which controls a complete cycle in each machine, the operations in each machine being out of phase by an equal interval of time, or two groups of machines may be controlled by two co-ordinated synchronized control devices so that the two groups are mutually out of phase. The groups of machines may be supplied from a common liquid reservoir. As shown, Groups I and II of machines A 1 , A 2 and A 3 have controllers B which are synchronized. Liquid may be transferred from one machine to the other by pipes 1, fresh liquid may be supplied directly to any machine, and waste liquid removed through drain conduits 2.
