Abstract

Aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol of 35 to 65% concentration are produced by means of a screw-type extruder from a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and water wherein the temperature at the inlet of the extruder and for between 5 and 40% of the total length of the screw is maintained at a temperature not exceeding 90 DEG C. and the exit of the extruder is maintained at between 110 DEG C. and 160 DEG C.
