Abstract
880,700. Electric selective signalling systems. HUTTERER, J. Sept. 4, 1959 [Sept. 5, 1958], No. 30256/59. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XX] A device for selecting one of a series of map sections, pictures or the like arranged in the form of a strip for viewing directly or by projection, comprising electrically driven means for simultaneously feeding the strip and motivating a control element which, in dependence on a manually performed selection operation stops the feed when the selected picture is presented, is characterized in that the control element is a switching head moving along electrically conducting rails and has a plurality of contacts which in dependence on their position with reference to the rails, energize the feeding mechanism. As shown in Fig. 1, any desired grid-section of a map is selected by means of the knobs 7 and 8 each of which closes one of a bank of switches 52, 53 (Fig. 7) thereby energizing one of the rails 29, and one of the ten associated contact points 33. Referring to Fig. 5, the reversible motor 11 drives either of the spools 3 via one of a pair of slipping clutches 12 (only one shown) thereby feeding the film 4 through the projector 38 and also rotating the transport worm 27 which moves the sliding switching head 28. The latter (Fig. 7) carries two series of contacts 31, 32, which according to their position on the lowest or highest stepped portions of the rails 29 connect the motor via the sliding contacts 30 to drive in either direction, when the control button 9 is depressed. There is no contact on the stepped portions of intermediate height which are staggered as shown, but the motor is still energized as an alternative route for the current is provided by the conductors 45, 46 and the conducting bars 34, which slide with the switching head 28, and are connected with the rails via the contact points 33, until an insulated portion 35 arrives opposite that one of the contact points which has been connected in the circuit by the knob 7 when the circuit is broken and the feed and switching head movement is arrested. Manual control of the film feed in either direction is provided by rotation of the knob 9. The projector may be replaced by a light source and reflector for direct viewing; printed pictures may also be mounted in strip form and viewed.
