Abstract

879,759. Centrifugal strainers ; filters. CANADIAN INGERSOLL-RAND CO. Ltd., and BIRD MACHINE CO. April 27, 1960 [May 5, 1959], No. 14825/60. Class 46. A screening device for aqueous paper pulp includes an annular passageway bonded on its outer side by a cylindrical screen 26 supported by a grid of spaced ribs 28. There is an inlet 32 at the upper end for the liquid suspension to be screened and an outlet 36 at the lower end for the rejected material, both the inlet 32 and the outlet 36 being tangential to the annular passageway. An outlet 34 for screened suspension is disposed outwardly of the screen 26 and a device for cleaning the screen 26 having foils 38 and 40 which traverses the annular passageway wherein the inner boundary wall 12 is smooth and imperforate with the width of the passageway equal to 2% to 20% of the diameter of the screen 26. The foils 38 and 40, suspended from arms 44, rotate on radially supported bearings 16 and 18 and are driven through the shaft 20, interconnected with an electric motor by driving belts 24. The reject outlet may, in an alternative embodiment, extend radially outwards of the screen 26.
