879,077. Moulding plastic articles incorporating foraminous members. PARMELEC PLASTICS CO. Oct. 8, 1959 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 34112/59. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XX] An article, e.g. a side shield for a pair of glasses, having a foraminous member embedded therein is moulded by supporting the member in a mould cavity so that its central area is covered, and then introducing molten material into the cavity so that upon solidification the central uncoated area of the member is surrounded by material. A protective bead 14 of plastic material e.g. cellulose acetate is moulded around a metal screen 12 to form a side shield 10 attachable to spectacle frame 22, in a mould 36, 38, 44. The screen is centrally located in the mould by pins 48 registering in holes 50 and flat faces 46 of members 44 cover the central area of the screen and a periphery cavity 40 is defined into which the material is injected. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, (not shown), a ferromagnetic screen is centrally located by magnets permanently located in the mould.
