Abstract

A foundry mould wash comprises 40-92% finely divided carbon, 1-10% polysiloxane surfactant, and a polymeric thickening agent. The carbon may be in the form of carbon black, lamp black, graphite, activated carbon including vegetable or animal charcoal &c. and the thickener may be corn, potato and wheat starch, acrylamide polymer hydrolytes, hydroxymethyl and hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyalkathene oxides and other synthetic polymeric thickening agents. The wash may also be used for coating steel ladle stopper heads and nozzles.
