Abstract
878,914. Apparatus for vertical take-off aircraft. CZERWINSKI, W. Jan. 28, 1959 [Feb. 5, 1958], No. 3061/59. Class 4. To increase the lift on a vertical take-off and landing aircraft 10 wherein the engines 15 may be swung after take-off about a transverse axis 16 from the position shown to a forward propulsion position, the landing ground is provided with a pair of rings 17 each forming an open-topped enclosure for the propulsive gases from the engines. The rings may enclose a plurality of smaller opentopped cylindrical elements and in another embodiment, instead of rings there may be a rectangular enclosure, rectangularly-divided, of such a size that it may contain the gases from both engines. It is stated that the device may be mounted on an aircraft carrier to constitute an outboard landing platform and it may be used with helicopters and aircraft which take-off with their longitudinal axis substantially vertical.
