Abstract
878,869. Electrostatic precipitation. SIMONCARVES Ltd. July 22, 1960 [Aug. 4, 1959], No. 26523/59. Class 39(1). An electrostatic precipitator comprises a rectangular chamber having four vertical walls a base and a roof having an access opening therein an inlet 13 Fig. 1 and outlet 14 for gas a plurality of alternately disposed vertical discharge and receiving electrode panels 35, 30 disposed side by side in spaced relation parallel to the gas flow the panels being suspended from the roof and means for closing the access opening. The access opening in the roof permits the electrode panels to be passed individually therethrough in a vertical direction with their planes at right angles to the path of the gas flow. The electrode panels are engaged with their suspension means after rotation of the panels through 90 degrees about their vertical axis within the chamber after their insertion through the access opening. The discharge and collecting electrodes are arranged alternately as panels. The collecting electrodes 30 are flanged metal plates and have header bars at their top ends the header bars having hooks engaging angle pieces 27. The discharge electrodes comprise open frames 36 with barbed wires 37 and are suspended from L-beams 26 by arms 40 and hook clips 41. Adjacent panels are secured together by bars 39. An electric motor mounted on insulators 23, 23a drives rapping gear for the discharge electrodes comprising a rotatable shaft with pivoted hammers which strike anvils in succession along the top of the panels. Rapping is continuous or intermittent. The collecting electrodes are provided with similar rapping means at their lower ends except that the anvils are replaced by rods or tubes which connect corresponding plates in successive panels. Baffles direct all gas through the electrode zones. The precipitator may be of the single zone or multizone variety.
