Abstract
877,547. Glass articles. ITALIANA DEL VETRO DI OTTICA S.A. Jan. 15, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 1475/60. Class 56. A glass container with surface decoration is produced by forming a blank with surface projections or recesses and blowing the blank into a finishing mould while producing relative rotation of the blank and mould so that contact of the blank with the mould produces deformation of the container being formed. As shown, the blank is formed from glass 2 shaped between a mould 1 and a die 3, either of which may carry ribs or flutes 1a, 3a. The blank, supported by the neck ring 4, is engaged by a clamp 6 having a conduit 7 for blowing into a mould 8 while the mould and the clamp are relatively rotated. Contact of the glass with the mould produces a helical deformation of the pattern on the blank, the nature of the deformation depending on the contact of the glass with the mould. This will depend on the glass thickness distribution in the blank and may be modified by moulding annular shoulders on the blank.
