Abstract

877,379. Tape storing control systems. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 31, 1957 [Jan. 2, 1957], No. 127/57. Class 38 (4). In an arrangement for storing a magnetic tape 1 which is being fed by a capstan motor (not shown) through a recording or reproducing head (not shown), tape from a reel 3 feeding the capstan motor is stored in container 7 in stacked folds which press laterally on a hinged vane 20, and the quantity in the store is maintained substantially constant by a mercury switch 21 responsive to the pivoting of the vane to actuate motors 5 and 11 driving the reel 3 and a capstan 9 respectively. The quantity stored in a container 6 before re-reeling on a reel 2, acts similarly on the other side of a similar hinged vane to control a reel motor 4. Arrangements may be provided for reversing the direction of the tape movement. The bottoms of the containers are shaped to facilitate removal of the bottom fold. The capstans 8, 9 may provide tensioning during re-reeling.
