Abstract

877,339. Structural panel members; doors. and windows. MOSCHETTO, G., and GIOVANNINI, E. July 10, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1958], No. 23848/59. Class 20(3) A door body comprises a panel made up of a plurality of structural members, each of extruded plastic and of generally rectangular cross-section with one side formed with at least one recess and the opposite side with complementary projections to engage the recesses of adjacent members, e.g. of translucent P.V.C. of different colours. As shown, the recesses and projections are wedge shaped and of such size that the engagement of the projections in the recesses draw the flat portions of the facing surfaces of the adjacent members together. The projection may comprise two diverging flanges 113, 114, Fig. 5 for easier endwise engagement of the projection into the recess 115, the joint being completed by an expanding member 160 forced between the flanges. In another construction, Fig. 6, recesses 212 are laterally confined by zones 65, 66, of hook shape, the respective projections having hook-shaped profile 61 which leave a tubular elliptical space 68 the longer axis of which extends transversely of the panel surface and an elliptical expanding dowel 69, Fig. 7, on rotation in the space 68 cause flat surfaces 64 of an element to be drawn tightly to the surfaces 61a, 62a of adjacent elements. The flanges 113, 114 may end in portions converging towards each other with a corresponding hexagonal recess 115, the flanges resiliently snapping into engagement in the recess by lateral entry thereinto. In another construction, Figs. 9-11 (not shown) recesses on either side of the structural member alternate with projections, and may be of U-shaped, cross-section the bottoms of the projections being engaged by a tight fitting wedge member or dowel mutually clamping adjacent members. The door construction, Fig. 2, comprises short structural members 6c, 6d and longer members 6a, 6b, forming an aperture for a pane 5, the sides of the opening being each lined by a channelshaped member 30 having a bearing stop 30a for the pane and a flat wall portion 30b for receiving a hollow channel glazing bead 31 secured by screws 32 or snap fastening means anchored to the bead and snapping into holes in the flat wall portion 30b. Each side of the door is sealed by a U-section member 25 or 26 secured by an adhesive. The member 26 has a hollow bead 27 extending beyond the base of the member to seal the door to the jambs as seen in Fig. 3, and to the cross member of the frame. The inside of the end member adjacent the hinge 47, Fig. 3, receives a prismatic metal tube insert 46 for a screw attachment 48 of the hinge and the door post comprising a hollow structural member 42 of synthetic resin also receives a similar insert 44 to receive the hinge screw 49. Strips 50, 51 of extruded plastic seal the joints between the doorpost 42 and the wood post 41 and between this latter and the wall 40.
