Abstract

877,223. Switches held set and freed mechanically. RITTER, J., and DOETTLINGER, A. June 16, 1959 [June 26, 1958], No. 20534/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XV] A push-button mechanism for use in a switch comprises a push-button 1 slidably-guided in a sleeve 2, relative movement between the members being restricted by a captive ball 4 retained in closed-ended or endless control grooves 5, 6 in the members, one of the members having a ball-insertion groove 7 open at one end and at the other end 8 communicating with one of the control grooves, the groove 7 being constricted where it opens into the control groove. The inner end of the push-button is used to close a pair of contacts against the bias of a spring 15a. The co-operating ball 4 and grooves 5, 6 serve to latch the push-button at successive depressions thereof in positions wherein the contacts are alternately open and closed. The push-button and sleeve 2 are injection moulded from synthetic material. The ball-insertion groove 7 on the push-button is used in the assembling of the parts, the ball being placed in the groove 5 and the pushbutton being then pressed inwards until the ball snaps past the constriction at the end 8 of the groove 7 into the groove 6. The groove 6 may be formed in the sleeve 2 and the groove 5 in the press-button and the ball insertion groove may be in the sleeve.
