In a gas-cooking stove 1, one burner 2 is removed, a plug being inserted in the gas outlet, and replaced by a tubular electric heating element 8 mounted in a bowl reflector 9 having an outwardly or downwardly bent edge 11 which engages in grooves 12 in saucepan supporting ribs 7. An electric supply cable 15 is led out of the back of the stove to a switch device 16 comprising a cable 17 for plugging into a power socket, a time switch 18, a switch 19 for changing to automatic control, a heat output regulator 20 and a thermostatic element 22 adapted to be placed over a vent in the lid of a saucepan and actuated by steam to cause full heat to be reduced to simmering heat.
