Abstract

874,653. Winding thread. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 30, 1958 [Aug. 16, 1957], No. 25891/57. Class 120(2) Winding apparatus for the continuous winding of filamentary material on to bobbins, of the type in which when one bobbin is full an empty bobbin is moved into the winding position, comprises a driving roll of a length sufficient to drive by surface contact two bobbins mounted end to end and carried by a separate spindle supported by an arm, the two arms being connected to a movable member which can move parallel to the axis of the driving roll, a traverse mechanism for laying the material on to the bobbins and means for moving the movable member as that when one bobbin is full the other can be moved to take its place. As shown spindles 1 are mounted in rotatable brackets 2 which are connected to tube 3 which may be moved along bar 4. Bobbins A and B carried by spindle 1 rest on a drive roll 6 and positioned opposite is a traversing cylinder 5. The tube 3 is located on the bar 4 by means of a pin 7 and a handle 10 for moving the tube 3 is fixed thereto. When bobbin A is full pin 7 is removed and tube 3 is moved along the bar 4 until bobbin B is in the winding position. During the change-over the wind-up speed is momentarily increased by about 5%. The material between the two bobbins breaks of its own accord because of the difference in r.p.m. between the two spindles but breaking means such as notches 11 may be provided. Instead of the movement of tube 3 being effected manually it can be moved mechanically as by pneumaticor hydraulic or spring means. Specification 874,651 is referred to.
