Abstract

874,594. Rotary filters. HARTLEYS (STOKE-ON-TRENT) Ltd. Feb. 22, 1960 [Feb. 20, 1959], No. 5850/59. Class 46. A horizontal rotary drum screen comprises a cylindrical drum 13 having perforations therein and a series of inwardly projecting vanes 22 extending lengthwise of the drum 13, which is fed with the mixture to be separated from a feed pipe 26, is encircled by rails 14 and supported on two sets of two rollers 12 two of which afford the peripheral drive. The vanes 22 which may be perforated carry the solid component of the mixture up to the top of the drum 13 from where it is discharged into a conveyer 21 passing lengthwise through the drum 13 and from there discharged into a wagon 28 or other disposal means. The drive for the rollers 12 and conveyer 21 is taken from an electric motor by chain drives only one 18 being shown. The drum 13 has two openings in its end plates, the feed opening 24 and a larger discharge opening 25, through which any accumulation of liquid drains into the tank 10 on whose vertical walls the apparatus is supported. A band conveyer or water washed open trough may be substituted for the screw conveyer and further, a cleaning brush may be applied to the outside of the drum 13 in combination with water jets.
