872,066. Compost turners. STRIDSBERG, H., and SETTERGREN O. G. A. Dec. 16. 1959, No. 42792/59. Class 86 [Also in Group XXX] A self propelled machine for turning compost heaps has steerable wheels 4 and driving wheels 2 which propel the frame 1 so that the heap is engaged by teeth 19, see Fig. 5 (not shown) on the transverse pusher cleats of an inclined endless chain conveyer 7. There are also transverse spring actuated hinged scraper blades 20, see Fig. 6 (not shown) which make contact with the ground as they pass the lowest point. The conveyer is pivoted about the shaft 8 and its inclination may be adjusted by means of the crank 15. The material is delivered on to a rotating member 21 having a central section' with tines 22 and inwardly conveying end sections, each end section being provided with a helix 23 having at least one complete turn and with short helical blade portions 24 of greater pitch than the helix 23. The compost is discharged through the opening 27 to form a heap of reduced width. There is a transverse spray line 29 for moistening the compost. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown) the rotating member has also an outwardly conveying double. helical projection centrally disposed between two sections of tines.
