871,781. Punching; stamping; sub-press mechanisms. DESOUTTER BROS. Ltd. Jan. 25, 1960, No. 2672/60. Class 83 (4). A press tool set comprising a base 1, two or more parallel pillars 2, 3 upon the base, a punch holder 5 having a corresponding number of bores therein, each provided with a bush 7, for receiving said pillars is characterized in that each bush is positioned and held in the punch holder bore by being provided with an external U-shaped circumferential groove 8 and a key 9 which engages closely in said groove at one end and is held at its other end upon the punch holder in such manner as to urge the latter in a direction parallel to the axis of the bush, thereby causing the key to make firm contact simultaneously with both opposite faces of the said groove. In an embodiment, a pair of keys 9 are fastened to the punch holder by headed screws 10. The keys are initially shaped so as not to lie wholly in one plane as shown in Fig. 5, so that on tightening the screws the keys are distorted to lie in one plane, Fig. 6, with the result that pressure is exerted on the opposite faces of the groove as shown by arrows A and B to effectively lock the bush in position and ensure an accurate alignment. Alternatively, initially flat keys may be used whereupon the parts of the punch holder adjacent the bush are shaped to distort the keys the desired amount on assembly.
