In an electrostatic microphone the diaphragm 3 is secured at its rim to the counter electrode 4 over which it is stretched and from which it is separated by tensioned plastic thread 1 wound over the counter electrode. The thread preferably has parallel portions between the diaphragm and the electrode, Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown).
