Abstract
Polymeric materials are made by reacting a diboronic acid, an ester or an acid halide thereof with an organosilicon compound having at least 2 OZ groups attached to Si, where Z is H, a lower alkyl group or an alkali metal. The reaction is effected by heating the reactants and removing liberated water or alkanol. Reactants specified are tetra-, penta-, hexa- and decamethylene- and p-phenylene-diboronic acids; diphenylsilane- and a , o -polydimethylsiloxanediols, and dimethyldiethoxy-, diphenyldimethoxy- and methylphenyldiethoxy-silanes. In examples, polymers are made by reaction of dimethyl-diethoxysilane with (1) tetramethylene diboronic acid and (2) p-phenylene diboronic acid; diphenyldimethoxy silane with (3) tetramethylene diboronic acid, (4) p-phenylene diboronic acid, and (5) tetramethylene- and p-phenylene-diboronic acids. Specification 864,473 and U.S.A. Specification 2,517,945 are referred to.
