A foundry pattern or a model for use in the production of sheet metal working tools comprises a wooden framework incorporating shaped headers 13 and a series of thin battens 15 secured to the shaped surfaces of the headers, there being a layer of plastic concrete material 20 poured into contact with the headers and battens. The concrete material is a synthetic plastic containing a cork filler. The outer surface formed by the battens is finally hand-finished.
