Abstract

869,583. Practising music. HERRBURGER BROOKS Ltd. Aug. 27, 1959 [Aug. 27, 1958], No. 27450/58. Class 88 (2). In a practice keyboard each key is supported by a leaf-spring so shaped and arranged as to offer a progressive increase in resistance as the key is depressed followed by a slight decrease in resistance as the key approaches its lowest position. As shown, one end of the leaf-spring 3 normally engages a notch 5 in the underside of the key 1 but slides out of it just before the key reaches the downward limit of its travel. An adjusting-screw 7 is provided and the notch 5 is lined with leather or other smooth material 6. A restoring-spring 8, adjustable by means of a cam 10, acts on the tail of the key 1. The leaf-springs 3 may be secured to a common supporting-rail which may be rotated to vary the thrust exerted by the leaf-springs on the keys. In a modification, not shown, the leaf-springs are arranged above the tails of the keys.
