Abstract
2 : 5-Bis-(phenylamino)-terephthalic acids substituted in the 31 position of the phenyl groups by methyl, trifluoromethyl or chlorine or substituted in the 41 position by chlorine are made by hydrolysing the corresponding dimethyl esters which are made by dehydrogenating the corresponding dimethyl 3 : 6-dihydro-2 : 5-bis (phenylamino) terephthalates prepared by condensing dimethyl succinylosuccinate with m-toluidine, m-trifluoromethyl-aniline or m- or pchloro-aniline respectively. 2 : 5- Bis- (21-methoxyphenylamino) terephthalic acid, 2 : 5- bis- (41-phenylaminophenyl amino)-terephthalic acid and 2 : 5-bis(pyridyl21-amino) terephthalic acid are made by hydrolysing the corresponding dimethyl esters. Specification 868,361 is referred to.ALSO:Linear quinacridones are made by heating a 2 : 5-bis(arylamino) terephthalic acid or an alkyl ester thereof with a polyphosphoric acid. Examples are given. The products are yellowish-red to bluish-red pigments and are used for colouring paints, lacquers and plastic materials. Specification 868,361 is referred to.
