Abstract

868,180. Air filters. SLY MANUFACTURING CO., W. W. Sept. 29,1959 [Oct. 31, 1958], No. 33006/59. Class 8(2). A dust-laden air filter bag, having opposed sides, comprising two compartments made from a single piece of cloth, a forward compartment 19, formed from a single thickness of cloths 10 and 30 and doubled folded, to produce an interior rear compartment 20 with an externally stitched seam at the rear, the two compartments being held together by stitching at 17 and 29. The rear seam is vented at 41 for insertion of a rigid mullion 40 carrying a hook 42 protruding through another vent 43 and engaging an eye bolt 44, spring mounted on an iron angle 46, to tensions the bag. The top and bottom sides of the bag are formed by folding and then seaming at 35 and 36. The bag may be sectionalised to prevent ballooning, by horizontal lines of stitches at 52 and 53 and may also have internal spacers 9 inserted in the separate sections to prevent collapse of the side walls under suction. The front end of the bag has side flaps joined by strips of the same material. The flap may have wire reinforcements and may also have holes formed in it for attachment to the dust wall, not shown. A plurality of bags can be used.
