Abstract
A composition comprises by weight from 30 to 95% of one or more organopolysiloxanes convertible to elastomers and having a viscosity from 5 X 106 to 500 X 106 cp. at 20 DEG C., and from 1 to 20% of the siloxane of a polyfluoroethylene and from 1 to 20% of an organosilane which is the reaction product of a dihydric alcohol of the general formula: <FORM:0867485/IV (a)/1> in which R1 and R3 are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 6 C atoms or a phenyl group, and R2 and R4 are each an alkyl group of 1 to 3 C atoms, with a silane of the formula: RaR1bR11cSiX4-a-b c, where a, b and c are each 0, 1, 2 or 3, a+b+c equals 1, 2 or 3, R, R1 and R11 are each an alkyl, alkenyl or aryl radical of not more than 12 C atoms and X is a halogen or an alkoxy radical derived from an alcohol of lower boiling point than the dihydric alcohol. The siloxanes may contain Si-bonded alkyl, aryl or alkenyl radicals. P.T.F.E. and polytrifluorochloroethylene, preferably having a particle size of 0,15 to 100m , are specified. Optional fillers specified are silica, alumina, titania, lithopone, calcium carbonate, carbon and talc. Curing agents specified are benzoyl-, di-t-butyl-, t-butyl-, 2 : 4-di-chlorobenzoyl-, chlorobenzoyl- and di-cumyl-peroxides and t-butylperacetate. Silanes specified are (tetramethylethylenedioxy) dimethylsilane, (tetramethylethylenedioxy) diethylsilane, (tetramethylethylenedioxy)-diphenylsilane, (tetramethylethylenedioxy) methylphenylsilane, pinacolmonotrimethylsilylether, pinacolbis-trimethylsilylether, and [di (methylethyl) ethylenedioxy] dimethylsilane. In a typical Example (1) methylvinyl siloxane, precipitated silica, diatomaceous earth, red iron oxide, (tetramethylethylenedioxy) dimethylsilane, and 2 : 4-dichlorobenzoyl peroxide in a liquid siloxane were compounded together and stored prior to milling and curing.
