Abstract

867,046. Hygrometric elements. JASON, A. C., and LEES, A. Aug. 31, 1959 [Aug. 29, 1958], No. 27822/58. Class 40 (1). A method of manufacture of hygrometric elements in which a rod such as that described in Specification 732,969 using an outer metal electrode on aluminium oxide produced by electrolytic oxidation of the base aluminium wire electrode by sulphuric acid, is stored under certain conditions for three to six months and then is carefully dipped in a saturated large or heavy anion solution, such as sodium tungstate. This may then be cycled between different humidities until its physical characteristics are stable. The embodiment shown in Fig. 1 consists of aluminium oxide 12 on aluminium wire 11 overlapped at one end by an epoxy resin or other insulating sleeve 13 on to which is placed an aluminium conducting sleeve 14 which connects the porous outer electrode 17 to a connecting- wire 15 both being superimposed but insulated from each other. An alternative construction can be used in which the porous electrode is applied before the conducting sleeve which overlaps it and connects it to the wire, Fig. 2 (not shown). Specification 805,051 also is referred to.
