Abstract
A metallic sheet having magnetic properties is provided with an adherent coating of a refractory electrical insulation material the exposed surface of which is non-adherent and has raised portions. Suitable refractory materials are lime, dolomite, magnesium oxide, silica, and mixtures thereof, which may be suspended in an aqueous solution of carboxymethyl-hydroxyethyl cellulose, or an organic solvent solution of methyl cellulose, cellulose acetate or an alkyd resin. The mixture may be applied to one or both sides of a long strip such as silicon steel strip which is passed between grooved rollers so as to provide the raised portions and subsequently rolled up and annealed in a furnace, the coating serving to prevent the plies of the roll adhering to one another. The coated metal may be used for transformer cores. U.S.A. Specification 2,141,329 is referred to.
