Abstract

864,756. Spooling magnetic tapes. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS & TABULATORS Ltd. Sept. 25, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 36509/56. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XVI] A roll of tape 1, e.g. magnetic tape, fits in a circular tray 2 rotatably mounted on a baseplate 5. A head 3 of a post 4 is attached to the base-plate 5. The post 4 extends through a central hole in the tray into a tube 6 secured to the tray. A tape guide member is formed of three metal strips 7 bent to form two truncated cones. The ends of the strips form lugs which extend through holes in the tray 2 to secure the strips thereto while the top face of the strips are secured together by a stud 8. After passage around the guide, the tape is twisted through approximately a right-angle to pass over a pulley 10 mounted on a horizontal axis. The tape is fed from the tray by a friction drive or feed sprocket of a reading device (not shown). The height of the pulley 10 is such that the lower edge of the tape, as it leaves the guide, is clear of the upper edge of the tape remaining in the tray.
