Abstract

864,186. Panning dough. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. Aug. 26, 1957 [May 30, 1956], No. 16703/56. Class 87(2). A dough piece panner comprises a continuously moving conveyer belt 3 carrying a succession of baking tins 6 which are positioned in turn by stops 85 at a loading station, flaps 7 above the loading station which pivot downwards from a dough piece receiving position and a peeling conveyer 9 which lays dough pieces 5 in succession on the flaps, operation of the stops 85, flaps 7 and conveyer 9 being in timed relation. A feed conveyer 1 transfers the dough pieces, which have been twisted in a mechanism 33, to the peeling conveyer 9. Preferably a moving apron 32 is adjustably positioned above the initial stretch 20 of the conveyer 1. The delivery end of the peeling conveyer 9 passes round a hose roller 40 which is connected by links 41 to swing arms 42, retraction of which peels the conveyer from beneath the dough piece 5 and deposits it on the flaps 7. During the retraction the motion of the conveyer 9 is interrupted by a lost motion device, Fig. 3, in the chain-drive to the driving sprocket 52 of the conveyer. The chain 53 passes round sprocket wheels 54, 55 which are carried on a member 58 which is journalled on the shaft 51 of the sprocket 52 and has a toothed quadrant 59 meshing with another toothed quadrant 60 which is rocked by a cam 67. When the member 58 is swung clockwise lost motion is applied to the chain 53 and the movement of the conveyer 9 temporarily ceases. The stops 85 are spring-biassed to the tin-retaining position, from which they are moved when extensions 86 therefrom are pivoted by levers 89 on a shaft 90 which is suitably oscillated through a link 94. The flaps 7, Fig. 4A, are moved down and apart, allowing a dough piece to drop into a tin beneath, when a link rod 79 moves a crank 78, on the shaft of which one flap is mounted, and meshing quadrants 76, 77 cause the flaps 7 to move in unison. The cams 97, 80, 64, 67 which actuate the link 94, link rod 79, swing arms 42 and quadrant 60 are all mounted on the same shaft 61, securing the required timed relation. The shaft 61 is suitably rotated when a dough piece 5 arrives at the loading station by the engagement of a clutch mechanism 70 initiated by photo-electric detecting means 11. At the end of a panning cycle the clutch 70 automatically disengages the drive until the next dough piece arrives at the loading station. Specification 864,185 is referred to.
