Abstract
Triallyl phosphine oxide is prepared by making the allyl Grignard reagent and then reacting it with phosphorus oxychloride. Magnesium turnings in dry ether in an ice-cooled bath are treated with allyl oxychloride in ether producing the Grignard reagent to which is added phosphorus oxychloride in dry ether. The complex is cooled in ice and decomposed with a solution of ammonium chloride, the aqueous layer then being extracted with ether and giving on distillation triallyl phosphine oxide.
