863,793. Allyl ester polymers. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. Oct. 8, 1957 [Oct. 22, 1956], No. 30204/60. Divided out of 863,792. Class 2(6). The invention relates to polymers derived from acyl derivatives of the triallyl ester of citric acid of the formula:- wherein R is an alkyl radical of from 1 to 18 carbon atoms or an aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl radical and R<SP>1</SP> is an allyl radical. The preparation of these acyl citric esters is described in Specification 863,792 and the acyl radical may be derived from acetic, propionic, pelorgonic, lauric, stearic, benzoic, n-butyric, p-toluic, or phenylacetic acids. The acyl citric ester may be homopolymerized or copolymerized with other citric esters of the above formula or with other comonomers such as vinyl acetate, propionate or butyrate, methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl acrylates or methacrylates, acrylonitrile or triallyl cyanurate. The polymerization is described in the examples as taking place in bulk at raised temperatures, 70-110‹C., in the presence of benzoyl peroxide catalyst. The polymers produced are clear, infusible substances.
