Abstract

863,244. Conjugated diene polymer compositions. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Sept. 7, 1959 [Oct. 28, 1958], No. 30455/59. Class 2(6). A coating composition comprises a liquid polymer of a conjugated diolefin of 4 to 6 carbon atoms modified by air blowing or by reacting with 0À01 to 2À5% of maleic anhydride, and from 0À5 to 3À5% of a phosphorous compound having at least one replaceable acidic hydrogen atom. Specified dienes are butadiene, isoprene, dimethyl butadiene, piperylene, methyl pentadiene and their mixtures. The diolefin may be copolymerized with minor amounts of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer e.g. styrene, p-methyl styrene, dimethyl styrene, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, methyl acrylate, or methacrylate, vinyl isobutyl ether, methyl vinylketone, and isopropenyl methyl ketone. Specified phosphorus compounds are the ortho, meta, hypo and pyro phosphoric acids, phosphorous acids, polyphosphoric acid, hydrates of orthophosphoric acid and anhydrous phosphoric acid, zinc acid phosphate, ammonium acid phosphate, n-amyl phosphate and dibutyl phosphate. Solvents such as water, lower aliphatic alcohols, liquid ketones and aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons may also be present. The coating composition may be linked. Specifications 704,607, 766,225 and 802,562 are referred to.
