Class 25 [Also in Group XII] A refractory screen for protecting ceramics during firing or lining chimneys, flues or furnace walls includes one or more units each comprising angled pillars 10 formed with side grooves receiving plates 11, and having end recesses 17 receiving dowels 18 engaged by overlapping tie-bars 16. The projecting ends of the dowels engage lower recesses in the pillars so that the screen may comprise superposed units. The pillars may have side pegs engaged by slotted or apertured tie-bars, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), instead of the top tie-bars. For each unit the pillars may be made in two superposed sections and the plates in three so that the joints do not coincide, Fig. 2 (not shown), and a typical unit is octagonal in section, Fig. 1 (not shown).
