Class 97(1) The apparatus comprises an objective for forming an image of an object in a primary plane, means for moving a photographic film past a position in which it can receive such primary image, and interrupting means interposed in the path of the rays between the object position and the primary plane whereby the primary image is dissected into a number of spaced partial images without materially displacing such partial images from their primary image positions, the spacings between the partial images being such that the partial images do not overlap one another with respect to the direction of movement of the film, whereby the area traced out along the film by each partial image is segregated from the areas traced out by the other partial images, the composite image in the primary plane constituted by the complete set of partial images lying within a series of striplike areas inclined to the direction of movement of the film. In the form shown the object B is imaged on a plate D by either a normal objective on an anamorphosing objective, formed of cylindrical lenses A1, A2, which forms an image elongated in the direction of the length of the plate the plate D is formed with parallel, inclined, non-overlapping slots or equivalent rows of holes. The film C may move in juxtaposition to the plate or the plate may be imaged on the film by a further objective or separate objectives El, E2, E3 which image separate parts of the plate their fields being separated by light shields D3. The slotted plate may be replaced by a transparent block covered with juxtaposed inclined cylindrical lens elements, each of which images a slit in the plane of the lens A1 and parallel to the lens elements. The slit may be adjustable in width. The film may be wrapped round a transparent rotating drum and the recorded image projected by a system similar to that used for photographing using a light source inside the drum.
