Abstract
A bituminous material is mixed with a compound having more than one epoxy alkyl group attached directly to an amino nitrogen atom. Specified bituminous materials are coal tar, refined coal tar, pyrogenous waxes, coal tar pitch, edeleanu extract of a petroleum distillate or the bottoms product from the distillation of catalytically cracked gas oil. The nitrogen to which the epoxy group is attached may be that of ammonia or a mono-or-poly-amine a list of which is given. Preferred compounds are N, N-diglycidyl aniline N, N, N1, N1-tetra glycidyl methylene di aniline, N, N1-dimethyl-N, N1-diglycidyl m-phenylene diamine, N, N, N1, N1-tetraglycidyl diamino-diphenyl sulphone and N, N-diglycidyl butylamine, but other glycidyl amines are given. Solvents, e.g. xylene, benzene or petroleum distillates may be added during the mixing and additional ingredients are the epoxy resins of Specification of 730,670, liquid glycidyl polyethers of polyhydric alcohols, inert fillers, e.g. sand quartz, shells, crushed rocks and resins, and alumina; pigments, e.g. asbestine and Carbosil; and hardeners, e.g. NaOH, KOH, Na phenoxide, formic or oxalic acids, phthalic anhydride, dimerized or trimerized fatty acids, BF3, AlCl3, ZnCl2, FeCl3, Zn fluoborate or fluosilicate, Mg perchlorate, phosphoric acid, n-butyl and diethyl-o-phosphates, hexa-ethyl tetraphosphate, and a long list of N-containing compounds of which diethylene tetramine is used in the examples, and which includes triethanolamine, diallylamine, adducts of amines with polyepoxides and their salts, and aminoamides derived from polybasic acids and polyamines. The components of the compositions may be mixed in various orders. Uses. Coating concrete, asphalt, wood, steel or plaster, particularly in the form of roads, runways, dock areas, sidewalks, or tennis courts, by screeds, trowels, shovels, brooms, brushing, spraying or rolling. Specification 819,107 also is referred to.ALSO:A bituminous material is mixed with an organic material having more than one epoxy group attached directly to an amino nitrogen atom. Specified materials are; bituminous:-coal tar, refined coal tar, pyrogenous waxes, coal tar pitch, an Edeleanic extract of a petroleum distillate, or the bottoms product from the distillation of catalytically cracked gas oil; epoxy material:-N,N-diglycidyl aniline and N,N,N1,N1-terraglycidyl methylene dianiline and many others-the amino nitrogen to which the epoxy group is attached may be of a mono- or polyamine, suitable examples being given. Solvents may be added during the mixing. Additional ingredients are the epoxy resins of Specification 730,670; inert fillers, e.g. sand, quartz, shells, crushed rocks and resins, and alumina; and a curing agent (a long list being given). Specification 819,107 also is referred to.
