Abstract

858,970. Processing nuclear fuel. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 22, 1959 [Feb. 21, 1958], No. 5682/58. Class 39(4). Neutron-irradiated uranium carbide is refluxed with water until evolution of acetylene ceases and the residue of hydrated uranium oxide is dissolved in nitric acid. This avoids the formation of organic compounds which would increase the settling time in subsequent extraction with tributyl phosphate.
