Abstract

858,280. Transistor pulse circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 9, 1957 [April 24,1956], No. 12448/56. Class 40(6). A circuit for switching a transistor between its twc states of conductivity comprises a second transistor having its input circuit ir parallel with the input circuit of the first transistor and a transiently regenerative circuit connected between the output and input circuit of the second transistor to superimpose impulses on the input wave to assist the transient portions of the input wave. The input edge of a pulse at (a) causes current to build up in transistors T1 and T2, feedback through transformer T and capacitor C2 adding a voltage spike to the pulse edge to speed the build-up in transistor T2. A similar spike of opposing polarity is produced at the trailing edge of the input pulse to assist in clearing stored charge carriers from the base of transistor T2. Bias is supplied through a resistor R5 to ensure that transistor T1 is cut off in the absence of an input pulse and resistor R4 ensures that transistor T1 is only lightly bottomed when conducting so that it will switch off quickly. The circuit L1, R6, D1 prevents ringing in the transformer T.
