In a rotary disc filter the filtering medium 11 has a perforated backing 9, made from plastic, e.g. polyvinyl, which is adapted to abut the frame of the segment 6 to prevent the filtering medium 11 contacting the faces of the frame 6 thereby preventing any electrolyte action between the two parts.
