Abstract

857,621. Slow-combustion and detonating fuzes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 19, 1959 [Sept. 2, 1958], No. 28147/58. Addition to 808,087. Class 9(1). The fuze cord 1 described in the parent Specification is subjected to repeated rolling by passing it, while under tension, through a succession of pairs of rollers 2, 21 and is then maintained in its extended state at a temperature such that thermoplastic deformation can occur, until on being cooled while still extended and then released it retains its new dimensions. The rollers are provided with mating grooves and the grooves progressively smaller. The rolling operation may take place at a temperature below that necessary for thermoplastic deformation, the cord 1 being subsequently passed through a heated water-bath 5 while under tension and before storage on a drum 6.
