Abstract

856,718. Rotary mould table machines. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. Sept. 28, 1959 [Oct. 10, 1958], No. 32430/58. Class 87(2). A moulding machine for a rope of sugar &c. comprises a moulding wheel having a toothed portion and an adjoining portion with axially extending mould cavities, a wheel cooperating with the toothed portion and forming tablets connected by webs of material, and pairs of plungers to transfer the roughly shaped tablets to the mould cavities, to mould them, and finally eject them ; each moulding cavity having slots connecting it to its neighbours and extending part of the length of the cavity which accommodate the webs so that they are broken only when the tablets are forced right into the cavities by the plungers. A moulding wheel is formed in three sections, a section 10 formed with driving gear 14 and carrying plungers 23, a section 12 carrying plungers 22, and a section 11 formed with teeth 15 defining recesses 16 and also containing axially extending moulding cavities 17, one opposite each recess 16. A sugar rope 18 containing a jam filling is fed at station A to the nip of the moulding wheel and wheel 19 which forms partially formed tablets 20 joined by webs 21. The tablets 20 are moved in succession into the cavities 17 by the cam operated plungers 22 and each tablet is partially compressed at B, Fig. 1, the web 21 being unbroken and located in slots 24. Further movement of each tablet into the recess at station C beyond the slot 24 breaks the web, plungers 23 are then retracted, and further forward movement of plunger 22 ejects the tablet. Each slot may have chamfered leading edges and a knife edge at its inner end, Fig. 9 (not shown).
