Abstract
856,609. Tapping metallurgical furnaces. DANGO, B., and DIENENTHAL, H. Sept. 15, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958; April 21, 1959], No. 31461/59. Class 51 (2). A drill 13 for tapping a metallurgical furnace has a mounting 10 adjustably supported by spindles 8, 8<SP>1</SP> from a yoke 3 rotatably mounted on a swinging arm 2. The yoke 3, adjustable in a horizontal plane, and the mounting 10 adjusted to the necessary inclination, are swung to an out of use position by a motor 14. The drilling machine 12 and drill rod 13 are axially displaced in the mounting 10 by a motor 11, a catch 17 disconnecting the machine 12 and drill rod 13 if a break out occurs. Indicating devices 15, 16 determine the depth of the tap hole drilled. The yoke may be mounted on an arm guided perpendicular to the tap hole runner in a frame, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown, on a plunger moving up and down in a tube vertically above the runner, Figs. 5 and 6, not shown, or on a trolley running on rails spaced above and parallel to the top hole runner, a catch holding the trolley in position during drilling. A yoke 33, Fig. 10, carrying a mounting 34 for a crown drill and a second mounting 35 for a cheap tool for the final tapping is mounted on arm running transversely of the runner, and adjusted so that the drills mav be used in turn and then retracted to the out of use position 37.
