Abstract

856,378. Endless conveyers. VICARS Ltd., T. & T., EATON, J., and CLEMENTS, R. B. March 31, 1959 [April 8, 1958], No. 10949/58. Class 78 (1). Four streams of biscuits B are caused to intermingle to form two streams by apparatus comprising four delivery channels 11-14 into which the biscuits are delivered by a stacking rotor 10, four double endless chains 15-18, each carrying pairs of pins 21 for extracting piles each of a predetermined number of biscuits from the associated delivery channels, two pairs of converging guide plates 23 arranged above the chains for intermingling the piles, and an endless belt 26 having guides arranged over its surface to form two receiving channels into which the intermingled piles of biscuits are transferred by a stacking rotor 25. To ensure intermingling of the piles, the pins 21 on each chain are spaced apart a distance at least twice and preferably three times the diameter or length of a biscuit, and the pins on chains 15, 17 are staggered in relation to those on chains 16, 18. The number of biscuits in each pile may be adjusted by a trimming plate 22 and by making pins 21 interchangeable with pins of different size. Detector switches 34, 35 operate mechanism to stop the drive to the chains and the preceding machine if a jam should occur. They may also operate alarm apparatus. A hand-operated deflector plate 30 may be displaced into the streams of biscuits in the delivery channels should a jam occur so that the biscuits by-pass the intermingling apparatus via an endless belt 32 and channels 33 leading them to a part of the belt 26 to one side of the receiving channels of the intermingling apparatus.
